Reading Books Travel Candle
Kinda hipster but I don’t mind, buying this will make you feel sophisticated and a bit clever.
You’re on a city break. You’re on your own, you’re in a cafe and sat on the terrace watching the world go by. Lots of concrete around, a double espresso so strong your heart is racing, one of those little biscuits that smells incredible. They bring a glass of sparkling water over and it has a slight taste of hard water reduced only by the slice of lemon in the glass. Your phone is dead. Perfect. On the wall there are shelves floor to ceiling full of books. It’s a perfect end to the day and it’s only 11am.
We’ll be donating 10% of the sale to improve child literacy with this candle. With over 30% of people having trouble reading in the UK this is something that doesn’t get enough support. I found reading hard at school and I am a slow reader, I have had moments in life when I have found this hard.
You’re on a city break, Paris / Barcelona / Madrid / Berlin. It’s about 26 degrees, you know when it’s warm but not too hot to have coffee and sit down. You’re on your own, you’re in a cafe and sat on the terrace / square watching the world go by. Lots of concrete around. 20 Marlborough Red (europeans don’t smoke lights), a double espresso so strong your heart is racing, one of those little biscuits that smells incredible. They bring a glass of sparkling water over and it has a slight taste of hard water reduced only by the slice of lemon in the glass.
Your phone is dead. Perfect. On the wall there are shelves floor to ceiling full of books. You pick one up and it smells like old libraries. You thumb through it, half interested, half watching the world.
It’s a perfect end to the day and it’s only 11am.

I found reading hard at school. I’m not dyslexic or anything, I just couldn’t do it well. Im good now, but I wish I’d had some help earlier.
Cigarettes, old books, concrete, a croissant, a newspaper and the smell of summer in the distance.
About The National Literacy Trust
16.4% of adults in England, or 7.1 million people, can be described as having 'very poor literacy skills.' Adults with poor literacy skills will be locked out of the job market and, as a parent, they won’t be able to support their child’s learning.
The National Literacy Trust aims to help people affected by this. I struggled to read for a period of time when I was younger and it really affected my confidence for a while. I still read quite slowly now and I hope this candle can go some way to help people feeling how I did.
From every sale 10% of the price will go to this incredible cause.
This candle will provide good times for over 25 hours. Check out our playlists designed for each candle that should last the distance and bring some good vibes.
This candle is a bit more grown up. Hints of old books gathering dust on the shelf of a french cafe, the waft of the concrete from outside on an autumnal day and the light breeze blowing some tobacco back in through the window. This is great for a dinner party to show off how sophisticated you are even if you haven't finished a book since GSCE english in 1999

Candle care and safety is the serious thing on this website. If you take care of your candle it will smell better, it will also last longer and will fill your house with good vibes.
If you take good care of it everything will be better and it will also be safe to burn. We’re all grown ups but let’s be clear, you are setting fire to something in your home and that requires a bit of common sense.
Make Candles Great Again
Trim the wick - if you don’t the flame will be massive, the candle will burn badly and will be unsafe. Why would you not do this? Go find those scissors. You wanna go to 5mm if you can (that’s quite small)Trimmed the wick? Bravo. This should prevent smoke and residue. Is your wick in the middle? Yeah weird huh, sometimes when you burn a candle the wick can shift over a bit. Keep an eye on this one.
Burn Time - first time? You want to make sure you have 2 hours to let the melt pool reach all the way round the candle. Super important on the first burn to prevent those holes you see in candles (we call this tunnelling). There are full safety instructions on the box and candle but some really obvious ones we want to call out.
Never leave candles unattended
Don’t leave them by an open window or a draft
Don’t burn a candle right next to another candle. The glass can get incredibly hot if you do this and this is when cracks happen.
Don’t burn candles right down to the bottom of the vessel.
Our large candles will last 40-50 hours and the travel candles 20-25 hours so don’t panic. That last bit left in the glass is ok to leave.
You can find out more here on candle safety.
All our candles are made using sustainably sourced soy wax. Our packaging is recyclable and even (most) of the stickers we use are also biodegradable despite their shiny appearance.
